About The Dinners

We believe that knowledge is augmented by considering theology in public discourse. Such conversations are essential for today’s leaders as well as for leaders of the next generation.

As an initiative of the Center for Christianity and Scholarship, every et Religio Dinner brings such conversations to the public and helps fund similar engagements for students and faculty in Triangle-area universities.

What to Expect

et Religio Dinners bring people together to enjoy a three-course meal while exploring diverse perspectives of a topic facing society. Participants will have an opportunity to listen to expert panelists and then to discuss the topic of the night among themselves at their dinner table of 8-10 guests.

Each table conversation aims to have three segments: comprehension (understanding the topic and what is at stake), analysis (how differing worldviews view the topic), and action (how differing worldviews respond).

Who the Dinners are for

et Religio Dinners are for anyone who wants to explore how theological frameworks and other worldviews engage big societal topics.

Making a Difference

Funds raised at et Religio Dinners support similar conversations, courses, and forums hosted by the Center for Christianity and Scholarship for Duke and Triangle-area students and faculty.

What’s in a Name?

The phrase “et Religio is Latin for “and religion.” These words are found today in the second half of Duke’s motto: eruditio et religio (knowledge and religion). et Religio Dinners are so named because the Center for Christianity and Scholarship works to maintain the relevance of religion as a framework of knowledge in university academics.

Who is the Host?

et Religio Dinners are an initiative of the Center for Christianity and Scholarship, a 501(c)(3) organization in Durham, NC. Since 2012, we have served 100s of faculty and 1000s of students at Duke University and across North Carolina’s Research Triangle.
